MARILZA RAMOS - THE MAESTRO!
Marilza Ramos is a self taught artist who was born in the City of Tubarao in Brazil.
She is recognized by UNESCO’s (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) The International Association of Art (IAA) as an international artist.
Her inspirations arise from different silhouettes presented in nature and the universe. She brings her vision to life as she journeys through each canvas creation; the manipulation of texture in motion is what makes each piece unique.
I met Marilza during the 'Brazilian Festival' at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi on 23rd February. She was showcasing her art as part of the celebrations.
What kind of art is popular in Brazil?
Abstract and contemporary art are favourites of the people of Brazil. A large majority of artists focus mainly on these two types of art. Even though there are many other kinds, abstract and contemporary art are immensely popular, especially among aspiring artists and the youngsters of the country looking to break into the field. Even for myself, I personally love abstract art.
Do young people in Brazil choose careers in the field of art instead of archaic careers such as medicine, engineering and law?
Yes definitely! People in Brazil love art more than anything. Now more than ever, people are actively and successfully pursuing a career in this field. Street art is most popular especially the novices and gradually they make their way up the ladder to more complex kinds such as impressionism, realism, and surrealism.
Do you think there are any commonalities in South American and Arab art?
I think art is universal. The beauty of art is that it has nothing in common with any other culture, any other religion. It is universal in the way that it speaks to everyone in a different way. It appeals to everyone in a different way. It is perceived by everyone in a different way. So you can say that art has no boundaries.
How would you define your style of work?
I work when I feel I have a solid inspiration; I work when I know I am at the peak of my artistic abilities. When I feel confident to make a beginning for a new project, I work and most importantly it is from the heart. If I don't want to or don't feel like working, I don't because I won't paint just because of the fear of 'losing inspiration.' Everything I work on and paint is from inspiration. It takes time to be inspired and an even longer time to make an art piece out of it, but I think in the end, it is worth it.
What achievements in your art career are you most proud of?
I am very proud and happy about the fact that my paintings are in the homes of prominent celebrities such as Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis. That speaks volumes to me in terms of my standard of work, my style of art, how people relate to it and how they perceive it. People know about my work all around the world virtue of art exhibitions. People of different backgrounds and walks of life, understand and relate to it. They go to great lengths to acquire my art work. It makes me very happy and this encourages me to continue doing what I’m doing.
